At the center of the captivating rolling fields, resided a young shepherd. His being was essentially pure, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was mainly to look after his flock of sheep.

Stories of predators prowling on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to help but saw nothing threatening.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This prank continued for a couple of more days. However, one morning, a real wolf actually come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
